Abstract

Every era paints its own pictures – the Parousia-concept of the coming Son of Man in Mark 13:26 f was drawn as apocalyptic images, which today are reduced by AI generators to harmless, kitschy visions of paradise. What is the appropriate interpretation of biblical images for the present day? Based on key statements about the Son of Man, such as the context of judgment, the transcendent origin of salvation, and judgment as gathering, the Parousia is presented as work on hope after the end, as a call for critical reflection on human feasibility, and as an encouragement to defragment existence and society.
