Abstract

This article explores the homiletical challenge of preaching the Gospel in today’s »age of authenticity,« shaped by hyper-individualization and the cultural demand for self-realization. Drawing on thinkers such as Charles Taylor and Andreas Reckwitz, Achim Härtner examines how authenticity has become a dominant moral ideal influencing religion, faith, and preaching. The study argues that contemporary
preaching is increasingly evaluated through the perceived authenticity and credibility of the preacher. At the same time, it warns against reducing preaching to self-performance and advocates a reflective, truthful, and Christ-centered form of authentic proclamation.
